The real strengths of the BBC versions are how closely the films match the actual plays, unlike most Hollywood versions. Showing a BBC film – or relevant scenes for SATs – means that your students get support for the actual print texts they are studying rather than a re-invention of the play by a film director. Students will therefore write about the text with added understanding and appreciation.

Mini-Practicals for Edexcel Psychology

This resource pack allows you to run the mini-practicals for Edexcel AS-Level Psychology. Each approach has its own pack that students can work through before running their study. At the end of each pack is a checklist for writing up each practical.
The mini-practicals have already featured on the examinations including a 10-mark question in the May 2009 Unit 2 paper. Students who use this pack will score very well on these questions as they cover all that is needed. This can help them attain the best grade possible in the examinations.
Also included in the pack are step-by-step guides for the three inferential statistical tests that feature on Unit 2 (Chi-squared, Mann-Whitney and Spearman’s Rank). It is up to you whether you want to get students to perform the tests by hand (or you may have a computer program to do it). In addition there is a handout showing students how to rank data (needed for both the Mann-Whitney and Spearman’s tests).
Each pack can be used separately and has a ‘logo’ so a student can easily identify the practical pack they need when it comes to completing it, running the study then writing it up. You can give it out as a stapled pack or as individual sheets as students work through them at different rates. That’s the beauty of this pack – it allows a uniformed delivery of a crucial aspect of Edexcel AS Psychology. Students get used to the packs so practicals always run smoothly.
