This resource has been developed to assist with teaching the new specification for Edexcel GCSE Physical Education. It aims to provide structured material covering – 1.1: Healthy, Active Lifestyles, which contains lively student and teacher resources for the individual topics.
The resource contains three parts; a student’s booklet, 5 PowerPoint Presentations (39 shows), and a teacher pack. The student’s booklet and designed to be used alongside the corresponding PowerPoints to deliver the full syllabus. The lessons are well structured and feature a range of teaching and learning styles to enable differentiation within the class. The teacher pack includes a scheme of work, individual lesson plans, a homework sheet and an answer page for each topic.
1.1.1 Healthy, Active Lifestyles and How They Could Benefit You (4 lessons) This topic focuses upon the social, mental and physical benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle and the specific personal skills that physical activity can stimulate.
1.1.2 Influences On Your Healthy, Active Lifestyle (5-7 lessons) This topic focuses upon the key influences that may affect participation in physical activity. It also explores the roles available within sport, and examines sports development including specific school and government policies.
1.1.3 Exercises and Fitness AS Part of Your Healthy, Active Lifestyle (3 lessons) This topic focuses upon the key influences that may affect participation in physical activity. It also explores the roles available within sport, and examines sports development including specific school and government policies.
1.1.4 Physical Activity as Part of Your Healthy, Active Lifestyle (6 lessons) This topic focuses upon fitness testing, principles of training and goal setting. It explores methods of training to improve fitness and aims to provide an understanding of how to plan a specific exercise program. It also examines the body’s energy systems and explains the use of target zones and thresholds. This topic has intricate links with the coursework PEP module.
1.1.5 Your Personal Health and Wellbeing (3 lessons) This topic focuses upon the relationship between exercises, diet, work and rest and explains the components of a healthy diet. It explores macro and micro nutrients and the importance of blood shunting in relation to diet.
