AQA Entry Level Certificate Food Technology (3942) Unit 2 Information Collection and Research.

This resource has been developed to provide interesting activities for this 'paper based' unit and allows pupils to work as independently as possible while researching into a range of biscuits, organise and present information.

The resource covers all outcomes for levels 2 and 3 and includes a workbook with ready-to-use tasks, and an accompanying CD-ROM with a PowerPoint presentation, a simple biscuit database, separate Excel templates for both levels, relevant Internet addresses and colour biscuit images. While some tasks are clearly differentiated for levels 2 and 3, some are differentiated by outcome depending on the amount of support given to the student.

Although it is possible to complete Unit 2 without using ICT, tasks have been set that encourage the use of computers (use of Excel software) and Internet.

Few additional resources are required and they are listed in the instructions at the front of the workbook.

Although the outcomes assessed are paperwork tasks this unit can incorporate practical work, making it more interesting and despite being mainly targeted at low ability students at KS4, it can be taught on its own or in conjunction with GCSE Food syllabus.

Sheets to be handed in for assessment are clearly marked and a couple of activities have been added for pupils who complete work earlier or for homework.
