These notes are written as a companion to AS Organic Chemistry Notes for Edexcel. They are intended to explain the inorganic chemistry required for the AS Edexcel exam. They include a section on period 3. They also include sections on the industrial inorganic chemistry involved in the manufacture of aluminium, ammonia, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide and chlorine.

In the sections on the groups, the physical and chemical properties and trends within each group are explained, as far as possible, on the basis of the valency electronic configurations of the atoms in each group. In the section on period 3, graph of melting point of the element, boiling point of the element and first ionization energy are plotted across the period and explained on the basis of the molecular structures of the elements and the electronic configurations of the atoms.

The industrial processes are described in detail and the conditions for them are explained on the basis of kinetic and thermodynamic principles. Economic and environmental considerations are also discussed in some detail when they are relevant.

As with the organic notes, these inorganic notes could be given out by teachers as class handouts and used as a basis for class discussions. Alternatively, they would serve as a revision summary.

At the end of the notes are three tests. Answers are included at the very end.
