A debate: los jóvenes opinan brings the front pages of the world's press into the classroom as seen through the eyes of the youth of the Spanish-speaking world. Here young people are given the opportunity to express their views on a wide range of issues in a way that will surely please some and enrage others! Never has the term 'the global village' become truer. Nobody today can say that they are not affected by the current wave of international terrorism or the stark reality of calentamiento global.

These are questions that now concern not only all Europeans, but citizens of the world in general. In this resource they are projected with, naturally enough, a Spanish and Latin-American slant. Each topic is given the pros and cons treatment in a way that is aimed to provoke debate and a healthy exchange of ideas with thoroughly researched, up-to-date vocabulary, expressions and structures.
Once the student has read each of the five points of view on a topic, he or she indicates his or her reaction to them on a table. Positive would mean a three or a four; negative a naught or a one; neutral a two. There is scope here for the student then to defend his or her stance on the matter through oral interaction in class or written work to be read aloud. A base de datos provides a rich source of facts and figures, some of which should prove surprising! This is followed by a vocabulary exercise based on words and expressions used in the text, and finally, to round off each four-page section, a 'spot the difference' paragraph is aimed to instruct and entertain.
