This pack consists of a series of worksheets compiled to provide an introduction to writing poetry for use with pupils aged ten to fourteen. It concentrates on three basic areas: free writing on given subjects, knowledge of fundamental techniques and forms, and the development of imaginative thinking.

Each worksheet is based on a different subject and offers examples of pupils' poems that can be used during the introduction of writing sessions.

An Introduction to Writing Poetry covers a number of key National Curriculum areas contained in the English Programmes of study for years 7 to 11, promoting, for example, the 'Knowledge, skills and understanding' component of writing through an emphasis on 'Composition', 'Planning and drafting' and 'Breadth of study'.
