Why does Mona Lisa look so miserable? How will your pupils cheer her up? Cover her with flowers or patterns? This is the first task in this second lively selection of assorted art tasks, aimed at ages 7-14 The emphasis is on imagination and creativity, with strong use of skills and materials to get your ideas across. Strange things happen: decorated hands turn into plants and monsters walk through the woods. And that's just the start.
Imagine drawing huge pages of noses and finding out how to distort your face like the Expressionist painters. Learn and reinforce colour theory by colour mixing with snakes. Then, to keep the animal theme going, try designing fantastic fish, which can be collaged into group or class pictures. Make simple but effective 3D creatures out of cardboard tubes and scrap materials. Perhaps those fantastic fish you've just designed.
Tasks are open-ended for use as homework, cover work or as starting points for projects. Most are straightforward enough for the non-specialist. Teacher's notes suggest suitable materials to use and ways to extend a task into a major project.
All worksheets have clear drawings and are pupil-friendly and photocopiable. Some are designed for pupils to work on the sheet, others as starting points and examples for a task. They have been extensively used with mixed ability pupils, including those with special needs.
