This material is a PowerPoint classroom revision game for students following AQA GCSE Psychology 3181. It could also be used for some units of the OCR syllabus, or even the A level for AQA or OCR. Based on the classic TV game show Blockbusters, it aims to provide lively active revision of key terms and concepts. It is suitable for small and large groups of students (14-16 year old) as well as adult learners.
The questions used in this game are all based on the glossary and content of two key texts commonly used in schools, namely, Woods (2004) Understanding Psychology and Cardwell (2003) Complete A-Z Psychology Handbook.
The material has been designed to enable all learners in a class to participate either in two teams, small groups or individually. It also enables students to have active control of the board, by using team captains to colour in the shapes won, or even as question master.
The only additional resources required are coloured board pens and appropriate ICT presentation equipment. The presentation slides can be printed for use on OHP where PowerPoint is not available, or paper printed and used as a board game for small groups to play.
Alternatively the questions can be used as a type of verbal test of knowledge. Rather than using the PowerPoint presentation, the students can be asked to write down the appropriate answer, to be swapped and marked in class, or collected for tutor marking.
