The resource consists of a short profile, portrait or cartoon of every Prime Minister from Robert Walpole to Tony Blair (with the exception of a few insignificant ones in the 18th century, Wilmington, Waldergrave, Sherbourne etc).
Some statesmen, who dominated the age in which they lived but never served as Prime Minister e.g. C.J. Fox, Lord Castlereigh and Joseph Chamberlain, have also been included.
The illustrations have been freely drawn from contemporary cartoonists and caricaturists e.g. James Gillray, John Tenniel, David Lowe and Gerald Scarfe.
An appendix has been added to indicate the political parties to which Prime Ministers adhered, but it should be remembered that the term 'political party' was a far more fluid concept in the 18th century than in the 21st century.
