This series of Chemistry PowerPoint Shows aim to enhance pupils' enjoyment and understanding of Chemistry. They are animated, refreshing, punchy, humorous and are readily accessible to the pupils. Most are interactive, pupils engage mentally and physically with concepts.
It is a developing range; some are aimed at pupils in the primary sector (although they can be used as introductory material in early secondary years). Most are aimed at years 9-11. Some of these materials have also been used successfully to provide introductory material for students embarking on year 12 courses.
They can be used as stimulus material; they also provide an excellent opportunity to revisit topics to re-inforce understanding and learning. In the current climate of starters, plenaries and questioning they have much to offer.
The shows have been used in a number of different situations. Individual pupils can access them from a stand-alone computer or the school's resources network.
They have been used mostly with interactive whiteboards. However, they can be projected on a normal screen for whole class use. To increase interactivity, pupils can use individual whiteboards. The hyperlink buttons of the interactive sections of the shows have been coloured to make it easier for pupils to refer to the button colours when penning answers. A significant feature is that the teacher determines the session's pace and can add their interpretation of the material. They have been well received by pupils of all ages.
