This set of seven PowerPoint shows - 607 slides (created in Office 2003 and XP) will enhance enjoyment and understanding of aspects of Science for primary and younger secondary pupils.

The topics covered include materials, circuits, states of matter, reversible and irreversible changes and separations.

Lively, animated, refreshing, punchy and humorous, they are readily accessible by the users. They are fun but also pose detailed questions and seek student involvement.

They are good stimulus material and provide an excellent opportunity to reinforce learning and understanding. They are great for revision, starters and plenaries.

Individual pupils can access them from a stand alone computer or the school's resources network. They can be used with interactive whiteboards or projected on to a normal screen. To increase interactivity, pupils can use individual whiteboards. The hyperlink buttons, used in some shows, have been coloured (R-Y-G) to make it easier for pupils to refer to the button colours when penning answers.

Teachers determine the pace and can add their interpretation of the material. The shows have been well received by pupils. Makes teaching and learning fun!

The Botchups investigate Materials

The Botchup Brothers go camping and looks at a range of properties of materials from waterproof cover for their kit to keeping their coffee hot (and their butter from melting) to mending their torch and finding a problem with their extension lead. They eventually become so fed up with camping they take their kit to the tip!

The Botchup Family investigate reversible and irreversible changes.

Reversible situations - evaporation and condensation, freezing and melting and getting pure water from salt water.

Irreversible changes - burning, frying eggs, rotting apples, making cakes.

Reversible and Irreversible Changes without salt

This looks at a whole host of reversible changes and covers evaporation, condensation and the Water Cycle.

Reversible or irreversible? Pupils are asked to decide about a range of changes including a rotting apple, a fried egg, a lump of concrete and a birthday cake.

Reversible and Irreversible Changes with SALT

Covers the same material as the above but also includes work on changing salt water to pure water and salt and back again.

Separations

This considers a wide range of different separations:

• Separations using sieves, magnets, and filters.
• Separating the parts of a solution.
• Using chromatography to show that black ink is composed of a range of colours.
