This resource consists of a 61 slide PowerPoint display and a print version of the resource. It provides a great way to access some key concerns of Citizenship; cartoons, commentary and questions encourage students to think through crucial issues. Students need to develop a real awareness of the world and this requires that they understand a range of views - the 'tabloid press' is not the solution to being an active citizen! There are professionally drawn cartoons and they are designed to challenge accepted positions in Citizenship. The issues covered include statistics, 'Englishness', voting, monarchy, free press, media, consumers, global community, legal/human rights, sustainable development, the UN, conflict, the economy, religion and the USA.

This resource is of use in a variety of ways - from encouraging discussion, as homework, as part of a greater assignment, to decorating a Citizenship classroom for display. It is a resource to be dipped in, designed to stimulate student imagination by offering a visual alternative to traditional ways of learning. This resource appeals to both ends of the learning spectrum as cartoons appeal to the most academically gifted and to those who are less academically capable. The issues raised, and the answers offered, vary in difficulty so teachers need to check that the cartoons are suitable for their classes. Some of the material is only appropriate for senior classes.
