This pack looks at the issues of rights and responsibilities initially from the viewpoint of the pupil. It then develops the topic by exploring the local, national and ultimately international contexts of children's rights and responsibilities. Finally, it looks briefly at human rights in general.
The pack is divided into four sections each preceded by a teacher's page, which offers a summary of the section, useful websites where relevant, extension exercises and additional facts to be used at the teacher's discretion. Each section is a follow-up from the previous one, with the aim of extending pupil's knowledge and awareness of wider issues. Nevertheless, the pack is designed for flexible use and individual worksheets or sections can be used without having to use the whole pack.
The pack can be used for 11-14 years old. There is a variety of activities: Comprehension exercises, puzzles, quizzes, sorting and categorising exercises, tables to fill in, poster and pamphlet making, discussions, class presentations, writing newspaper articles and letters and extended paragraphs. Some of the text and the exercises are differentiated and extension tasks are offered. Most activities can be done individually and in writing, but they can also be used for group activities and debates.
