Contraception - The Facts is an Australian made film written and presented by practising doctors to give a teenage audience practical advice on the types of contraception available and the advantages and limitations of each. It includes information on natural, barrier and synthetic forms of contraception, outlining how they prevent conception into a language which is easily accessible to the target audience.
It is ideal for use in PSHE or Science Lessons with a sex education focus. It is suitable for use with pupils across the secondary age range and could even be used with sixth form pupils.
The information presented in the film is backed up by a workbook: Contraception The Facts, which not only tests comprehension of the material presented in the video but also tests pupil's prior knowledge, before watching the video, and memory retrieval, extension and application of that knowledge, after watching the video. The 20 worksheets are accompanied by teacher's notes, which together form a self supportive scheme of work.
Both the film and the workbook have been trialed in classrooms by practising teachers and have been found to be 'highly successful'.
