Drama is an excellent vehicle for developing speaking and listening skills. It is an expressive process which involves imaginative role-play and revolves around social interaction. Pupils are encouraged to use voice, language, body movement and space in a process of self-awareness and discovery. Through Drama, it is possible to explore a variety of topics, current issues, conflicts, themes and concepts at a symbolic and real level.

Development Through Drama is a comprehensive new resource which includes 20 very different ideas for drama lessons, dealing with new topics from the First World War to the National Lottery to the Circus, as well as 20 suggestions for class warm ups. Ideas are provided for teachers as to how the Drama class may be organised and a supplement at the end of the book discusses the growth and nature of Drama, from the Egyptian plays of 2-3000 BC to the plays of Shakespeare and Burbage.
