Young people have often acquired a mixture of urban myth and misinformation about the nature of illegal and addictive substances and need clear, straightforward guidance on the nature of such drugs. This collection of photocopiable resources provides simple, visually interesting sheets to offer a clear and easy to understand introduction to the key issues on this topic. Created by an experienced teacher these materials offer a very useful starting point to discussion, debate or further study and would be of value in PSHE, Citizenship, Modern or Social Studies lessons for pupils 11-18. They can be used for group or individual work if the teacher wishes, and are also suitable for use as a display or stimulus material, or for a session briefing staff, mentors or parents in clear simple terms about the nature of different substances. For younger pupils a series of wordsearches and accompanying answers on the theme of substance abuse are also provided and these offer the opportunity to develop literacy and keyword skills, to reinforce and develop language skills and to offer the sort of extension or straightforward exercise that young people often like towards the end of challenging lessons.
