Pack K2 - Early Railways
The application of steam to transport begins with Murdock's steamroad carriage in 1786. The series deals with the technical improvements made to the slow, unwieldy and uneconomic colliery locomotives at the beginning of the 19th century and builds up to the famous Rainhill Trials of 1829. It includes the first public railways from Stockton to Darlington, from Liverpool to Manchester and from London to Birmingham and Stephenson's Rocket and later locomotives. Also included are some bridge and tunnel projects from the 1820-40s.
