Chemistry PowerPoint (2003) Shows - Eight Organic Mechanisms CD-ROM
'Students interest captured...immaculate presentation...captivating graphics...superb and amusing sound effects...not just entertainment...constantly posing questions and reinforcing knowledge' (An Ofsted inspectors view of this show).
Eight shows and approx. 207 screens (created in Office 2003 and XP) enhance enjoyment and understanding of Organic Mechanisms for A Level Chemistry, particularly for Edexcel courses but generally applicable. Lively, animated, refreshing, punchy and humorous, they are readily accessible by the users. They constantly pose questions, they reinforce knowledge; they seek student involvement.
The mechanisms are: Chlorination of methane; Bromination of ethene; Nucleophilic substitution of haloalkanes (SNą and SN˛); Hydrogen cyanide with aldehydes and ketones; Polymerisation of ethane; Bromination of benzene; Friedel Craft's Reaction; Nitration of benzone. For each mechanism, animations show electron and group movements; students are encouraged to translate animations using written conventions before the correct mechanism is given. A summary of the mechanism is given at the end of each show.
Individual pupils can access them from a stand along computer or the school's resources network. They can be used with interactive whiteboards or projected on to a normal screen. Teachers determine the pace and can add their interpretation of the material.
Once purchased, the CD can be freely copied and networked throughout the school.
