English Language: Activities on the Theme of Presents

This resource pack uses the fun surrounding the giving and receiving of presents as its theme to stimulate written and verbal English language responses. It is aimed at students of all abilities, aged between 7-13 years old, and can also be used with students with Special Educational Needs.

The work is suitable for any time of the year. A word bank is provided to support a piece of descriptive writing. Teacher instructions are given. There is a sequencing activity and two comprehension's. Also included is poetry, which can be employed in various ways, such as for discussion and comprehension. Frameworks are provided for the students to produce their own poetry. Research ideas into presents, including mythology, raising money for charity and organ donation, are formulated as well. Ideas are suggested for various research and activities on celebration cards. There are also four sheets which, when photocopied cut and mounted, can be used to accompany a wall display on the theme of 'Presents'.

With clear links to basic skills, but also to the National strategies for Literacy and Teaching and Learning, these sheets provide a useful, additional, bank of materials.
