Wordsearches provide an effective way of learning vocabulary, and offer a challenge to even the most able pupils if used in a timed way or are presented as a competitive challenge. For less able pupils they can help develop vocabulary and provide a sense of task completion and success as well as subtly reinforcing keyword acquisition skills.

This extensive pack includes a list of topics drawn from a wide variety of texts studied in schools, and from the cultures of three continents!

Differentiated with two levels of difficulty the pack provides sheets of wordsearches, and the accompanying answer sheets allowing teachers to copy this onto OHT for pupil self-marking if they wish. The materials can be used by a range of ages and abilities, and would be suitable for pupils' aged 9-16.

There are two wordsearches for each topic provided and each has either a 1 or a 2 shown at the top, with the harder sheet being the number 2 sheet. In version 1 words are either vertical or horizontal, whereas in the second version the words can go vertically, horizontally or diagonally. You can choose the appropriate level easily and pupils will not be aware of the subtle differentiation used. The sheets can be used to reinforce new learning, for revision, in covering for absent teachers, for extension purposes, for five-minute fillers and for homework.
