A word bank is provided to support a piece of descriptive writing. Teacher instructions are given. There are six comprehensions and two cloze pieces of work. A word-square focuses on the spelling, and application, of scientific words connected with eggs; the Egg Words activity is a fun way of exploring words starting with ex. Answers are provided for all activities. Stories behind the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme are explored. Also included is work on idioms, with activities; as well as poetry, with a framework, so that the students can produce their own poetry. Research ideas into eggs, including fantastical creatures, chocolate manufacture, Fabergé eggs, the decoration of eggs through the Ages and in different cultures, and embryology, are formulated as well.
With clear links to basic skills, but also to the National strategies for Literacy and Teaching and Learning, these sheets provide a useful, additional, bank of materials.
