'Literacy across the curriculum' and 'every child matters' are terms freely bandied around. What do they mean? And shouldn't we be interested in improving the standard of English beyond mere 'literacy' in our students? This resource is designed to remedy these concerns. It is a mixture; there are key departmental issues to be explored and detailed in your handbook, examples of major literacy areas given (including essays, essay frames, science 'practicals', stories), and many handouts for individual student support in assorted areas including sentences, paragraphs, essay structure, subject specific language, science practicals, stories, apostrophes, commas, examination techniques, writing frames, common errors etc. The handouts provide a structure for the student, not a million practice examples. Examples are drawn from Science, PSHE, Citizenship, RE, English and more! Topics include smoking, religion, global warming, work experience, republicanism, micrococcus and more.

It is a resource that deals with the multitude of concerns that occur under the heading of 'literacy' and 'English' skills. Attention has been given to all academic levels with the models provided as these can be beneficially accessed by students at all levels of ability. Obviously, not all sections are applicable to every subject.
