The emphasis is on learning through rhyme and repetition accompanied with humour and fantasy. The book covers many aspects of the curriculum in an empathic manner.

A section of the poems incorporates various spatial concepts such as ‘enough, behind, between, beside, left and right, above, bent, straight’. Many of these concepts are difficult to teach in isolation and a fun approach makes learning more satisfying for both student and teacher.

Many of the poems could form the basis for art work. For people with learning difficulties, practical skills such as drawing and painting are essential avenues that allow them to reach their potential.

Teachers of Special needs pupils will find this second Food Technology resource booklet full of worksheets to support their teaching in the food technology area.

The emphasis is on pictorial representation, taking pupils abilities into consideration through the use of uncomplicated text and activities that allow pupils to show their understanding in ways other than writing out sentences. E.g. pupils are asked to match text to pictures, to 'cut and paste', to sequence events into the correct order.

To support teaching to a range of ability levels it is suggested that teachers moderate or modify worksheets if appropriate. A suggested practice is to photocopy sheets to A3 size to present pupils with a larger area for drawing and creative activities. This would also support pupils who form large letters when writing.

There are pages within this resource booklet that could be used to produce posters (by enlarging and cutting out the pictures). Where pupils are asked to 'cut and paste' or match pictures to text, simple reusable games could be made by copying the given pictures/text onto card, then cutting out the pictures/text to produce the sets of cards that pupils could match up or manipulate on their desk tops. Such sets of cards could be laminated.

This resource is written for pupils in mainstream school working at Key Stage 3 who have learning difficulties.

It is hoped that the pupils could remain within the class working with a Teaching Assistant on this project. However, this resource could be used for younger children studying Christianity.

This resource gives opportunity for some guided research to be carried out that could also be used to promote independent learning. Most of these exercises could be done independently if the pupil has a little guidance and help where necessary with the given text. Some might need help with the reading. This project requires a minimum amount of writing although longer pieces are suggested at times.
