Frameworks for English help students with analysing pieces of literature, building the student's own writing and checking that writing. They are shown how to analyse the plot, the characters and the language in a story. They are shown how to analyse a poem, a play and paper based and film based adverts. They are shown how to plan their own stories, write persuasive essays, explanatory and argumentative essays, how to prepare a presentation and a brochure, and how to write creatively. They are also shown how to evaluate their work.
This resource is supplied in electronic form. This enables teachers to adapt the size of the frames to the task which students need to complete. They then have the choice of producing the frames in hard copy or supplying them to a computer network. Pupils can even be given the freedom to adapt the size of the frames themselves.
Each framework is accompanied by notes on how to fill them in and examples. Teachers are given the freedom to choose materials to accompany the frameworks, though suggestions of what to use are made in the teacher's notes. After extensive work with these materials, students gain in confidence about their own work and learn to plan more effectively. After a while, students begin to think in 'frameworks'.
