Primarily designed for use by non-specialist teachers who are teaching Citizenship as part of PSHE, this volume contains twelve easy-to-use tasks which offer sufficient material for a year’s worth of Citizenship lessons for Year 7 classes. These 'Frameworks' will be an invaluable aid for teachers who appreciate the value of talk in the classroom and believe that pupils are best placed to learn about their lives as Citizens through talk.

This material is rooted in the QCA Schemes of Work for Citizenship and makes use of National Literacy Strategy objectives to provide an assessment base for the topics covered. Clear explanations and guidance on how to use the material are included, and each task contains a number of pupil sheets to guide them through the task and the learning. Assessment for Learning teaching strategies are used throughout the tasks, encouraging independent learning and increasing engagement by pupils. They are designed to encourage structured talk in the classroom, making use of a variety of groupings and types of talk. They should also help to develop confident speakers and listeners.

The tasks have been developed with the concerns and interests of Year 7 pupils in mind. From a consideration of their position as the newest pupils in the school, they go on to discuss popular television programmes and issues that affect their locality. Although the emphasis is on talking, each task can be extended into a written task that can be used to build a folder of evidence for the pupil.
