This is a unique, new resource designed to help students assimilate new vocabulary quickly, efficiently and enjoyably. This is particularly important as dictionaries are no longer allowed in the exams.
Three skills are covered: Reading, Listening and Writing. This sequence of skills is a carefully constructed pedagogical sequence that lends itself to quick assimilation of new language.
Topics
For each skill, there is a sequence of activities using vocabulary from different topics. There are over 30 topic areas, each containing exercises for each skill, with nearly 700 exercises in total.
Activities
The exercise sequence is also carefully thought out to allow the student to follow the crucial steps in learning and retaining new language:
Activity 1 - presents the language via flashcards.
Activity 2 - re-enforcement of activity 1. By simple placement of the mouse they can confirm their guess at the meaning of each word. Once they are satisfied they can take a test.
Activity 3 - this is further practice of the language. Students have to rely on two different kinds of memory: visual and conceptual.
Activity 4 - this is now straight forward manipulation of the language and is the first stage in manipulation and production.
Activity 5 - appeals to the kinesthetic learners and drag and drop exercises have always proved popular.
Activity 6 - this is a test done under pressure and the timed challenge is very attractive to students.
Activity 7 - timed exercise (but not punitively as in activity 6) and many students will complete this exercise several times in order to better their time.
Activity 8 - is a competitive pair work activity where students compete against each other rather than against themselves. This is a rather unique concept in interactive learning and many students enjoy both pair learning and pair competition.
A unique resource that will improve students vocabulary knowledge.
