Although principally developed for the OCR 1937 Modern World History GCSE this resource has applications for any student, worldwide, studying the period for any syllabus at ages 14-16 (KS4). It aims to provide lively material, which is well structured and presented through seven PowerPoint slide shows/287 slides. It is particularly supportive to pupils of low ability or bi-lingual pupils. However it also contains information which will stretch and help more advanced students obtain a good grasp of the period.
Each unit is accompanied by a full set of photocopiable student information sheets which can be used and highlighted in class as the teacher progresses through each module on screen. It also includes helpful chronologies and worksheets. The accompanying teacher's sheets make suggestions on how to use the slide shows and also how to get pupils to remember each part of the course.
This new resource is a complete textbook on a disk and reflects the advance of technology in the classroom coupled with the much older idea of flash card revision and pictorial reinforcement. It can be used to teach in the first instance and then to revise. The work has been tried and tested with Learning Support students, students whose first language is not English and as a revision guide for pupils sitting GCSE exams. It also provides coverage for pupils who are absent from class and allows them to keep up. The advantage to the teacher is that lesson preparation time is cut as it is already in an easy format to produce schemes of work. It can be used as a crash course and would generally cover about a term's teaching. It can and does make learning fun.
