With emphasis on writing in genres the opportunity is created to explore the literary traditions, style, diction and atmosphere relevant to different types of fiction and supports the National Curriculum requirement that pupils should be able to write for different purposes.
The Teacher's notes contain all National Curriculum details in relation to English EN3 (writing), Composition and Planning and Drafting that could be used for record keeping and there is also a brief description of the short story as a literary form that suggests a structure for writing.
In respect to Planning and Drafting, story planners are provided (A4 & A5) on which pupils can record their initial notes in response to the themes, with spaces for the main story components of plot outline, character, time, place etc.
Each of the themes has been written in suitable vocabulary for 11 to 16 year old pupils and contains ideas and possibilities that can be developed by pupils in imaginative and creative ways.
This resource includes 24 pages of story ideas, plus planning templates and teachers notes.
