Linguistic and grammatical points are sometimes difficult to teach within the topic based approach of many of today's textbooks. There are rarely enough exercises for further practice and this collection aims to fill that gap.

Over twenty topics are covered. Exercises are supplied with answers, so that non-specialist teachers may readily use them. They are not meant to be a substitute for teaching, so each begins a summary of what should have been taught in the classroom. The summaries are designed to be retained by students for reference, having worked their way through the questions, and those summaries add up to a useful revision resource - always a useful thing in those last weeks before the examination. The questions could be usefully set for homework. All exercises have been tried out on Year 11 GCSE students, and modified in the light of experience. Some are suitable for students in the first year of an AS level course.
