These crossnumbers use a crossword format and develop in difficulty. They have numeric answers but need logic to get a correct answer; significant mathematical manipulation is not required. This reliance on logic makes them ideal for gifted and talented pupils.
At the start four answers are given so students can place them in the crossnumber and a complete list of answers is also provided. This help becomes less so that by the time a student gets to the last three puzzles neither answers nor answer list is provided. These last three puzzles are fiendish! Obviously if a student is in difficulty the provision of more answers simplified the puzzle. As puzzles increase in difficulty students may find working with others useful.
The clues vary - prime numbers, ascending digits, palindromes, squares, cubes and more - but this is a page of rules, glossary and useful tables. Students should have a copy of these unless one wishes to increase the difficulty where, in such cases, the information could be given verbally. As fewer answers are provided more alternatives need to be worked through.
