This AS resource workbook prepares students for the requirements of the 2551: Composing 1 - Section A: The Language of Western Tonal Harmony paper of the new OCR specification, 20 exercises in the completion of traditional folksongs. This set of photocopiable exercises guides students through the mechanics of the respective compositional techniques needed to create well structured harmonic realisations.
Candidates are required to submit a set of not less than six exercises showing the addition of bass and harmony to a given melody, of between 8 and 24 bars in length, taken from any suitable established repertoire. The selection of extracts for candidates to work may be taken from different genres, or from a single genre. The set of exercises should contain extracts in major and minor keys. Music technology may be used for the notation of exercises.
