Subject: PhysicsLevel: SecondaryAge Group: 14 - 16Order Number: 15089
How Physics Works is the student workbook you have been waiting two years for! This collection of fifty graded exercises (with answers) provides Year 10 and 11 students with that all important practice in analysing other people’s experimental data and expressing their ideas about how to improve experimental techniques.
The exercises are divided into those aimed at GCSE students below grade C, at Grade C and above grade C. Data in both tabular and graphical form are drawn from experiments commonly performed in school at this level as well as some from more advanced work and from a wide range of other publicly available data. The exercises are ideal preparation for AQA’s ISA’s or Edexcel’s IAA’s but will also find use in preparing OCR’s 21st Century Science candidates for the Data Analysis task..
Many of the tasks use ‘real’ data from a number of sources and could be the start of a project for interested students. Some tasks lend themselves to experimental work in the classroom which could extend over several lessons. Some tasks lend themselves to research work, starting perhaps with the internet links provided. This would be good preparation for the coursework tasks in the current OCR specifications (the case study for 21st Century Science GCSE or the research report in Advanced Physics GCE AS level). Suggested answers are given at the end of the book. Each answer is linked to elements in the QCA programme of study and grade descriptors. This enables teachers to assess the level of their student’s performance against each of the criteria within the programme of study.
Once purchased, the CD-ROM can be freely copied and networked throughout the school.
