These worksheets, targeted at 11-16 year-olds, have been developed as independent, stand-alone, self-contained sheets, covering a wide range of IT topics, which do not require any prior computer knowledge. They also do not require access to a computer and can be used as topic introductions, refreshers, fillers, lesson cover or homework.
The sheets are presented in a variety of formats including crosswords, fill in the blanks, design exercises and matching halves. They draw on logic, comprehension, problem solving skills; come with complete sets of answers and are structured for easy marking. They explore a range of topics from the more common themes of input and output to ideas such as private key encryption and protocols.
Each sheet and topic can be used in isolation and is not dependent on the others in the collection. The first half contains all the information needed by the student to complete associated exercise. Initially developed for the 13-14 year old age group, the exercises have proved popular among the more able 11 year olds and act as good primers for topics found in national exam syllabuses for 16 year olds.
The sheets have different layouts and difficulty levels, and challenge students in different ways. Students are guided through multi-part exercises making the sheets ideal for homework or cover lessons where an ICT expert is not immediately available.
