At A Level Media Studies, teachers and their students are expected to adopt a rigorously conceptual approach to a range of media texts and this can be a time-consuming experience in terms of classroom preparation – interpreting the examination specifications, finding appropriately challenging texts, as well as determining how to apply the key media concepts to them in ways that students find accessible and relevant.
This new resource, created by an experienced Head of Media Studies, Examiner and Moderator, contains an invaluable introduction to the concept of Representation for post-16 Media Studies and is particularly relevant for any teacher new to using AQA’s A/S and A2 specification. ‘Representation’ is one of the essential Key Concepts for all of the AQA modules, but specifically A/S Module 1, Reading the Media and the A2 Module 4, Texts and Contexts in the Media, where Representation can be studied as one of the two topics for the examination. The resource can also be used as a starting point for students interested in working on Representation for their A2 Module 5 coursework assignment. Alongside a substantial PowerPoint presentation for use in the classroom, the resource contains additional Teachers’ Notes, a selection of relevant articles and suggestions for further reading and curriculum development.
The PowerPoint presentation contains references to both print and moving image texts and can be used as part of an initial A/S induction in studying Representation, as well as for more detailed revision purposes at A2 level, with close references to AQA’s Assessment Objectives maintained throughout.
Once purchased the CD-ROM can be freely copied and networked throughout the school.
