This resource is geared around the learning of 35 Design and Technology spellings and their meanings, for pupil’s aged 11-14, using different exercises to ensure that they are learnt.

The Department has identified these words for Education and Skills (DfES) as causing common errors among pupils aged 11-14, and which they should be able to spell. All pupils will know how to spell some of the words, but this pack will enable accurate identification and monitoring of those words which need consolidating.

This pack has assessment and monitoring record sheets for teacher and pupil to monitor progress made in reading and spelling the target words. There are two spelling matching activities, a bingo game, word-squares and a multiple choice activity. Cloze exercises to aid understanding of the words are supplied, as are the anwers. Design and Technology word sheets, when enlarged, provide an ideal, yet simple, classroom display resource which can be used to aid memory and to help learn the spellings.

With clear links to the National Strategy for Literacy and Learning, these materials provide a useful additional approach to supporting pupils' learning.
