These fact/worksheets, written for specialist and non-specialist teachers, have been designed to form the basis of short listening-to-music and evaluation sessions for pupils in years 7 to 9. It is written in response to National Curriculum 'Listening and Appraising' requirements and specifically in respect of the requirement that:

Pupils should be taught to respond to and evaluate live performances and recorded music. Pupils should be taught to listen with concentration - exploring, internalising and recognising the musical elements of pitch, duration, dynamics, speed, etc.

The repertoire chosen for performing and listening should extend pupils' musical experience and knowledge and develop their appreciation of the richness of our diverse cultural heritage, (a) from different times and cultures, (b) by well-known composers and performers, past and present.
