Literacy Games Pack 1 - Letters to Words

A resource pack for creating card games using letters, prefixes and suffixes. The twenty matching word lists provide reference data for adjudicating games and are divided into lists of 26 2 letter words, 413 3 letter words, 1444 4 letter words, 2072 5 letter words and 3240 6 letter words to match to card games suitable for learners of all ages. The frequencies for the number of cards for each letter are calculated from the word set used in 'Quick Off The Grid' published by Applecroft SpeLD Base in Welwyn Garden City. These frequencies are not the same as 'standard English', nor those used in Scrabble or Lexicon, but they do match the letter frequencies for the word lists published by the UK Department for Education and Skills for students aged 5 to 14. A set of prefix and suffix cards has matching definition cards for alternative games. The complete resource consists of thirty-nine black and white A4 masters. Full instructions are included for making up packs of cards and for playing a number of games with the cards. The specially designed Sassoon font is used throughout to support and link to handwriting development for younger pupils and to maintain clarity.
