MFL German Reading Scheme

These schemes have been developed to accompany pupils from age 11-15 aiding them in developing their reading skills in French and German (as specified by the Programme of Study for MFL 5g). The schemes work alongside any graded readers or magazines currently available for purchase. The idea behind the scheme is to give a specific focus to reading in the foreign language while adding variety to language lessons by introducing 'library session' or 'reading session' within the classroom. All pupils should find the scheme accessible due to the range of activities in each section and will achieve due to rewards being given for effort in reading rather than being linked to increasing levels of difficulty. Activities in the scheme range from wordsearches and quizzes in the Bronze award to guided creative writing and basic comprehension activities in the Gold award. All activities are linked to books read in the foreign language by the pupil. The pupil manages their progress through the scheme but teachers can check monitoring the comprehension of the books by checking the activities completed by the pupil.

The scheme consists of a pupil's workbook, which will accompany the pupil throughout their school career and brief teachers' notes suggesting ways of incorporating reading in the foreign language into current classroom practice.
