The aim of this book is to provide straight forward opportunities for pupils to produce high quality mathematical drawings suitable for display. There are twenty ideas in the book, each with a clear list of equipment needed a simple set of instructions on how to complete each drawing, and some ideas for extending and adapting the drawings.
The drawings can be produced with only the minimum of equipment and provide practice at drawing with a compass, accurately measuring in mm and cm with a ruler, and measuring angles with a protractor. Examples of completed drawings and templates are included. The results can be shaded or coloured to make great displays, especially when they are grouped together.
These drawings can be completed successfully by pupils of all ages from 8 to 16 years old and are equally accessible for Special Needs pupils and very able students. They can be used to provide variety in the Mathematics curriculum; as reward activities; as an end of term wind down; or as a tool for a supply teacher. Completing each of these drawings does not require any previous specialist knowledge on the part of the teacher or pupil. The hope is that the drawings need take no longer than an hour to complete.
The practice of these drawings should lead to increased spatial awareness and may motivate pupils who find other areas of mathematics difficult. All of these ideas have been tried and tested in the classroom.
