This bank of activities comprises a range of meaningful tasks, which support the Music curriculum for 11-14 year olds. The resource can be used as homework, cover work or simply to supplement units in existing schemes of work. There are self-contained, literacy based worksheets, which focus on particular musical topics. For instance, ‘Odd One Out’ stretches pupils’ grasp of instrument families and ensembles and ‘Rhythm Maths’ challenges pupils to add up musical note value sums correctly. These tasks require pupils to demonstrate a range of skills, filling in the gaps, correcting false statements, guessing musical definitions, writing a diary, labelling musical instruments and composing lyrics.

A number of longer, research based activities are included, each with differentiated learning outcomes, which require pupils to research another country’s musical culture or a famous composer or a particular song over a number of weeks. The resource also includes a musical version of ‘Pictionary’ and opportunities for pupils to give their opinions about music and answer more substantial, 'open' questions, looking forward to more advanced study of music in later years.
