It has been recognised for a long time that due to its very nature, music is one of the subjects for which it is more difficult to provide last minute cover.
'Music in a Moment' is written for any teacher needing worthwhile 'one-off' activities for pupils aged 11-14. The majority of the activities assume little or no expertise on the part of the teacher, yet they offer pupils interesting and enjoyable tasks which are relevant to their varying experiences and will appeal to children of mixed abilities.
The book is divided into three main sections: Section one, 'Music in our lives' includes tasks such as 'Star Trail', 'Music I would Recommend' and 'Job Descriptions' and enables children to reflect on their own ideas, beliefs and opinions about music, whatever style of music they are interested in.
Worksheets in the 'Creative Music Projects' section require some musical resources such as keyboards, tuned and untuned percussion and tape recorders but are still mostly self-explanatory. A few of these tasks may be more suitable for teachers with a little musical knowledge. They enable pupils to engage in relevant composition and improvisation tasks.
The third section contains a selection of popular puzzles such as Wordsearches, anagrams and matching activities, some of which are based on pop music, enabling the teacher to provide fun activities for all musical tastes.
