Targeted primarily at years 7 - 9 (11-14 year olds), this colourful and interactive computer program gives students the opportunity to explore the topic of Norman castles. The text has been written for students of all ability levels and includes exercises for them to recap on what they have learnt. Specific areas that are covered include:

Why the Normans built castles in England - Motte and Bailey Castles - The siting of castles - Stone Keeps - The principal rooms of a Norman Castle - A quiz.

By using any word processing package with this program, students will develop their ICT as well as their historical skills. ICT skills that can be practised include word processing, multi-tasking and drag and drop.

The program has been designed with the problems that face history teachers using ICT in mind. It is possible for most students to complete the program in one hour-long lesson. The quiz at the end is a simple revision test of the main terms used in the program.
