This resource has been developed to help teachers deliver topics from the “Mathematics for Engineering Technicians” unit.
The material is concerned with the teaching required to help learners meet most, but not all, of the unit’s grading criteria.
There is a series of 7 presentations, the subject matter of which is listed below:
- Transposition of simple formulae.
- Transposition of complex formulae and combined formulae.
- Areas of regular shapes and compound shapes.
- Volumes of regular solid bodies and compound solid bodies.
- Basic principles of graph plotting.
- Pythagoras’ theorem.
- The use of sine, cosine and tangent in right-angled triangles.
The 83 slides explain concepts, methods and problem-solving techniques in a unique, clear and consistent manner. The presentations are colour coded to distinguish between the presentation of concepts, setting of problems, problem-solving, thought processes and emphasis.
Each presentation starts with a title slide followed by the learning objectives for the presentation. There follows a step-by-step method of delivery for the concepts involved, often incorporating work examples. It is suggested that the learners be given the opportunity to attempt examples for themselves at appropriate places in the presentation. Topics can be introduced at a pace consistent with the ability of any particular group of learners.
The omitted grading criteria (P6 and D2) appear in a separate resource – “Scientific Calculators explained using PowerPoint – Vol 1”.
This series of presentations completes a library of resources for PowerPoint Assisted Teaching of Mathematics at BTEC First, National and Higher Levels in Engineering.
Once purchased, the CD can be freely copied and networked throughout the school.
