All departments are required to support the current drive to improve standards of literacy. This book offers the RE teacher a wealth of ideas on the use of different styles of writing for different purposes and is appropriate for use with pupils in years 7 to 9.

Focusing on Christianity and Judaism in particular, but also Islam, it provides templates for newspapers, acrostic poems and letters as well as thesaurus sheets to extend pupil vocabulary in RE. There are also spellings lists, glossary exercises, examples of writing frames and homework tasks all of which are aimed at increasing accuracy in subject-specific vocabulary. The book also contains a host of good ideas for group work and presentations as well as sequencing exercises and quizzes.

This book could be used to try out many different ideas, some of which can be successfully transferred to other topics within RE.
