This resource is designed to help busy teachers implement the Governments ‘Real Meals/Licence to Cook’ initiative. It has been designed by experienced food teachers to be used as single lessons or as a basis for topics of varying lengths dependant on the teacher’s discretion and other constraints e.g. time, facilities etc.
It is suitable for teachers who are inexperienced in teaching practical food skills and require guidance and confidence in planning, organising and implementing successful lessons. These include a variety of subject matter to suit differing cultural and dietary requirements. This course is designed to build pupils’ knowledge and skills to give a good foundation for future development. The pupils will find the recipes to be easy to understand and informative which could be compiled into a basic recipe book.
At the beginning of the resource is a chart showing an overview of what is included in the Scheme of Work. This will enable the teacher to easily identify the topics most suited to his/her experience and the pupils needs. The Scheme of Work has been planned so that it flows from the pupil’s previous knowledge and experiences enabling them to gain confidence in practical cookery.
The wide range of subject matter will incorporate differentiation and this allows more able students to experience a wider range of skills.
