The record of achievement in French is designed to meet the needs of primary aged children or older students with learning difficulties. It is based on the Key Stage 2 curriculum scheme of work produced by the DfEE but could be used with any other syllabus designed for this cohort. Most publishing recording systems are too text intensive for these groups and, whilst useful as a teacher's record, do not give the student ownership of their learning record. This booklet was designed by a practising teacher of French to students with moderate learning difficulties and was in direct response to an Ousted requirement to develop a structured recording system for Modern Foreign Languages.

This resource is highly visual, asking children to colour in words as they learn them. It covers key transferable phrases as well as general vocabulary and ends with topic based vocabulary sheets. The booklet can be customised to show the school's own name on the front cover and pages could be added when copying if the topics covered vary from the DfEE guidelines.

Use in the classroom has shown that children thoroughly enjoy using this record. Teachers using the booklet have said that children love using it and that it is an excellent way to end of lesson, providing a plenary session in which the children can discuss and then record their own learning.
