Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry Workbook is rightly one of the most used texts for English Literature students. Its portrayal of race problems, youth crime, guns and murder gives us materials just as applicable to the street problems of latter day England as the inter-war southern United States. It prompts discussion on how young men are enticed by the easy glamour of ‘shooters’. It shows the painful cost for a woman acting as a role model for a minority group.
