Sandy is a high quality resource written and designed by a dyslexia specialist to provide a reader and workbook, which is of interest to both upper juniors (KS2) and teenagers (KS3/4), who are dyslexic or special needs and have a reading age significantly lower than their chronological age.

Included is support work, which can be offered to the child by either parents, teachers or L.S.As. Teaching strategies for the material is fully explained throughout, so that parents can take an active part in the learning process, something they have requested for a long time. Answer sheets are supplied.

The support work guides the pupil to the relevant page and helps them improve the following:
  • Reading for meaning
  • Following instructions
  • Scanning
  • Revising spelling rules and patterns
  • Use of learning aids

The vocabulary throughout has been selected so that common rules are exemplified; a high percentage of words can be tackled phonetically and through the worksheets the child is encouraged to recognise roots, prefixes and suffixes, to help with encoding and decoding strategies, especially for the more complicated ‘look and say’ words.

The worksheets can be tackled in their entirety or simply by the selection of work relevant to a particular child. This includes such activities as:

  • Cloze procedure
  • Developmental writing leading on from the main story
  • Punctuation work
  • Acrostics
  • Matching and pairing
