This workbook contains a series of scripts and tasks which, are designed to help GCSE students explore a range of skills required for examination success at this level. All the examination boards expect candidates to experience a broad range of techniques and engage in diverse activities surrounding the devising, realisation and presentation of plays and this publication will encourage discussion, improvisation, negotiation and evaluation. Whilst working through the scripts and suggested tasks, students will be required to look at Drama from the points of view of Writers, Directors, Performers and Designers. Some of the scenarios are unfinished and provocative, others complete plays which invite debate and negotiation. The suggested activities include script writing, exploration of sub text, research and design. Some are thought provoking, familiar, strange or dramatic, others merely fun.
All the scripts are photocopiable and there are plenty of opportunities for students and teachers to add warm ups and extra activities to suit their needs at every stage of development during the two-year course. All the plays can be realised with minimal theatrical equipment, though many would benefit from various lighting features or special effects if these are possible; the challenges surrounding the staging of the pieces can be met according to the spaces and facilities available. There is something for every Drama student in this collection of scripts and tasks.
