This pack is aimed at 11-13 year olds on the theme of dragons. It contains material for use with special needs students.

There is work covering adjectives, adverbs and connectives. An explanation and examples of the grammar are given, with exercises and cloze to assess understanding. Writing frameworks, and writing ideas, for discursive and imaginative writing (the latter with a word bank) are there as is work on improving simple sentences so that a high quality paragraph is produced. Also included is poetry, which can be employed in various ways: discussion, choral speaking and frameworks for the students to produce their own poetry. There are three sheets on which are spellings with silent letters and suggestions as to how they can be used. Extracts on which questions and a cloze exercise are based are in the pack for convenience. Research ideas into mythological creatures and fantastic beasts, with a presentation framework, are formulated as well.

With clear links to basic skills, but also to the National strategies for Literacy and Teaching and Learning, these sheets provide a useful bank of materials to meet the needs of special needs students.
